Resumen

Los concentrados plaquetarios (CPA) han sido nombrados desde 1954, para estimular la cicatrización y regeneración de tejidos, usado en campos médicos y en odontología. El creciente interés en su uso, llevó a que, a principios de la década del 2000, sus investigaciones se centraran principalmente en la eliminación de anticoagulantes, en búsqueda de una coagulación natural, un paso inicial crucial en el proceso de cicatrización. Este avance condujo al desarrollo del PRF, en el cual se forman coágulos sólidos de fibrina gracias a una red tridimensional de fibrina altamente polimerizada tras la centrifugación, lo que implica un menor tiempo y costo de producción. A pesar de estas aparentes ventajas, los constantes avances y modificaciones en los protocolos de obtención han generado varios tipos de PRF, sin concluir hasta la fecha directrices estandarizadas para la elaboración de este biomaterial. Por ello, esta revisión de la literatura ofrece un resumen de la evolución de los protocolos para obtención de PRF a lo largo de los años, y describir los fundamentos de la centrifugación y la participación de la fuerza centrífuga relativa (FCR), las rotaciones por minuto (RPM), la angulación y material de los tubos. Conclusión: La evolución de los protocolos de PRF a más de disminuir tiempo y costo de producción, han tratado de mejorar sus propiedades biológicas y regenerativas, teniendo como resultado una mayor concentración de leucocitos y plaquetas al disminuir el tiempo de centrifugación y las fuerzas centrífugas relativas, usando tubos de vidrio sin recubrimiento de sílice ni antiagregantes con una angulación horizontal.
